Rising sea levels a more pressing threat than previously thought

Scientists meeting in Copenhagen to conference on global climate change declared rising sea levels to be a far greater threat than previously estimated. Areas ranging from Bangladesh to Florida to the Maldives face an increased threat of catastrophic flooding, while the Thames estuary in London could disappear by 2100. The meeting, which emphasized ice-sheet melting, was organized to set the agenda for the upcoming Kyoto protocol replacement talks in Copenhagen.
