California farmers back $3.3B dam, reservoir

California farmers are backing a $3.3 billion dam and reservoir at Temperance Flat to provide additional water for irrigation in the Central Valley. However, the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California does not want to help shoulder the costs because the water will benefit agriculture instead of municipalities. "If it's just going to be on the backs of ag, it's probably not going to be doable," said Mario Santoyo, assistant general manager of the Friant Water Authority.
