Darden focuses on post-recession growth

While other chains deal with recession-era effects of previous rapid expansion, the parent of Red Lobster and Olive Garden appears ready to reap the rewards of slow, steady growth, say some industry analysts. "The big, well-positioned players like Darden that are very disciplined in their growth are going to find a lot of opportunities at the expense of people who don't have the same financial strength," said consultant and former Darden spokesman Rick Van Warner.
