FDA faults Basic Food Flavors in food additive contamination

An FDA report showed that Basic Food Flavors kept making and selling hydrolyzed vegetable protein, a food additive, despite the company's discovery of traces of salmonella at its manufacturing plant. The contaminated food ingredient prompted the FDA to order a recall of more than 100 products, including McCormick & Co.'s vegetable dips.
