Orlando cuts landscaping costs by using prison inmates

Orlando will pay the Florida Department of Corrections $195,000 annually so that it can use prison inmates as landscapers. Recent budget cuts have forced the city to scale back mowing, edging, weed control and tree pruning. As a result, city commissioners approved a contract to use prison labor to maintain Orlando's moniker as "The City Beautiful."
