U.K. regulators set sights on social marketers

British regulators are to start holding social-marketing campaigns to the same standards as print and broadcast advertising, officials announced this week. The U.K.'s Advertising Standards Authority will investigate complaints, enforce industry-specific advertising rules, and impose sanctions on marketers who offend or mislead consumers. "There is now considerable marketing activity on social networks, so it's clear that these spaces have to be included in the remit," says Advertising Association executive Rae Burdon.
