U.S. Senate rejects competing federal budget proposals

The Senate voted down two federal budget proposals Wednesday -- one of which would have slashed funding for education programs. The federal government has a temporary budget that will expire March 18. While President Barack Obama said the government needs to cut costs, he criticized those who want to reduce funding for education. "Fixing our schools will cost some money," he said. "Recruiting and rewarding the best teachers costs money."
