Gevo wants Minnesota to include butanol in blending policy

Gevo, which is converting an ethanol plant in Luverne, Minn., to produce butanol, is calling for an extension of a state ethanol-blending law and wants it changed to allow butanol to be mixed with gasoline as well. The Minnesota Corn Growers Association and the Minnesota Renewable Fuels Association are backing plans to extend the state's E20 law for at least three years, but the organizations aren't willing to support Gevo's call to include butanol in the law. Farmers are delighted that Gevo's butanol will be made from corn, but they are wary about changing the E20 law, said MCGA President John Mages.
