"Bionic leaf" can tap, store solar energy

Researchers at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory have come up with a "bionic leaf" that emulates the photosynthesis process of plants, converting solar energy into a dense hydrogen fuel, which can then be used in a fuel cell to generate electrical power. The development could potentially be useful to General Motors, Toyota and other automotive manufacturers in making vehicles that don't run on fossil fuels.
