California schools plan for possible layoffs

Gov. Gray Davis has warned that school budgets could be cut by 6% over the next 18 months, but it remains uncertain if the state legislature will approve the cuts. School leaders must begin planning now, for state law mandates that teachers be given five months warning before being laid off.
