China's consumer-price index drops to minus 1.6%

China's National Statistics Bureau reported that the country's consumer-price index declined to minus 1.6% in February. The agency said the index, which is China's main inflation benchmark, fell to less than zero partially because of a 1.9% drop in food prices. According to the bureau, the producer-price index was down 4.5% last month, after dropping 3.3% in January.
