New York State announces plan to boost rail service

A $10.7 billion rail plan for New York State would expand freight rail service and increase the speed and reliability of passenger rail service, state officials say. The plan, announced this week by Gov. David Paterson, includes adding a third track for high-speed service from Niagara Falls to Albany and reducing the travel time between Albany and Montreal. It also outlines how the state would spend funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
