Genachowski touts free or cheap wireless-data service

FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski said Tuesday that the agency was considering using some digital spectrum to provide free or low-cost wireless-broadband service. Stumping for the proposed National Broadband Plan, he told a Digital Inclusion Summit that "in order to ensure long-term American competitiveness and prosperity, we must not leave one-third of the nation behind." Genachowski also noted that companies and business professionals, who have become reliant on high-speed Internet links, would need guarantees of access to broadband services to remain competitive.
