San Antonio Zoo's geriatric elephant may have lymphoma

Fifty-nine-year-old Boo, an elephant resident of the San Antonio Zoo, may have lymphoma, according to zoo veterinarian Rob Coke, who said blood tests suggested the cancer but final results are pending. Boo appeared to begin feeling ill in January, showing signs of discomfort and refusing to eat. Staff are working to ensure her comfort, but Dr. Coke acknowledges they are on unknown ground. "This is completely new territory," Dr. Coke said. "We're setting the background now; we're trying to expand the knowledge base."
