BASF targets R&D expansions in North America, Asia

BASF is planning to expand its research operations in North America and Asia as it prepares to tap future growth markets in these regions, said Harald Lauke, president of BASF's Biological & Effect Systems Research. The company intends to place half of its research activities outside its home base of Germany by 2020. Meanwhile, "we continue to look for opportunities in India and globally in areas where we find we could improve the technology by collaborating or acquiring, especially in areas of light weighting [and] energy consumption," Lauke said.
