Cardiology groups issue valvular disease guidelines

The 2014 practice guidelines for managing patients with valvular heart disease establish a four-stage classification system for valvular heart disease. They also feature new transcatheter aortic valve replacement recommendations that call for performing the procedure in patients who are too ill for surgery and whose post-procedure survival is expected to extend more than a year. The American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association released the guidelines.
