New MXC optical cables from Intel give data transfers a boost

Intel is readying the market release of a new series of high-speed cables that use lasers instead of copper wiring to significantly increase the capacity of data transfers between computing devices. The new MXC optical cables -- which will be retailed by Corning, Molex and Tyco Electronics -- will support speeds of up to 1.6 Tbps at a range of 300 meters by using up to 64 individual fibers per cable.
