Researchers turn a smartphone into a low-cost tool for ophthalmologists

Diagnosing eye disease just got easier thanks to technology developed by researchers at Stanford University that turns a standard smartphone into a high-tech ophthalmological instrument. The team created two inexpensive, pocket-size adapters that let a smartphone camera take a detailed picture of an eye, which can be shared remotely with specialists, cutting the time it takes for an emergency diagnosis.
