Simulated cyberattack offers lessons for utilities

The federal agency in charge of developing and implementing protocol for the reliable operation of the U.S. energy grid says a recent cyberattack drill shows the sector has gotten better at responding to threats, but there is still room for improvement. The North American Electric Reliability Corp., which is preparing to issue a report on the November 2013 GridEx II drills, says the exercise saw improved communication on the local level between utilities and stakeholders, and highlighted the importance of sharing information at higher levels of law enforcement and government.
