Stem cell breakthrough scientist asks for research to be withdrawn

Teruhiko Wakayama of Yamanashi University, a co-author of an acid-bath stem cell study, has asked that it be withdrawn from publication, citing "crucial mistakes" in the research. The study caused a stir in the scientific community after irregularities in the images and in the procedure of the study emerged. "I think it is best to withdraw the research paper once and, using correct data and correct pictures, to prove once again the paper is right. If it turns out to be wrong, we would need to make it clear why a thing like this happened," Wakayama said.
