Bay Bridge span rebuilding price rises by $140 million

Improvements that will lead to the complete closure of San Francisco's Bay Bridge later this year will boost the price of rebuilding the eastern span of the bridge by $140 million. The additional cost is due to a decision to replace a small section of the viaduct next to the entrance of the tunnel on Yerba Buena Island. That and other changes will bump the cost of the eastern span replacement from just under $5.5 billion to more than $5.6 billion.
