ACG note:

03/11/2008

What distinguishes this new guideline is an emphasis on the importance and value of preventing colorectal cancer. The College wants the public to be aware that the guideline's stated preference for tests that prevent colorectal cancer supports ACG's longstanding position that colonoscopy is the preferred screening strategy for colorectal cancer. While the evidence suggests that there are some limitations to all of the various screening tests included in the new guideline, the College sees significant strengths in the proven benefits of visualizing precancerous growths and removing them in a single examination during colonoscopy.
