Congress should require the FDA and device makers to offer more consumer safeguards for recipients of implantable devices, medical-device safety expert William Maisel said. "Only with well-defined, specific consumer protections for such patients can we hope to minimize adverse health consequences and avoid costly recalls," Maisel noted.
