Peeling The Onion

Founded in 1988 by two college students in Madison, Wisc., the satirical weekly The Onion has grown into a national weekly newspaper and Web site, with a print circulation of 690,000 and in excess of 3,000 advertisers. At a time when newspapers are laying off staffers, The Onion is growing its arts and entertainment section and expanding its online video service, ONN. Editor in chief Scott Dikkers said, "We deliver a slavish, dunderheaded demo that will buy anything you ask them to."
