Janet Woodcock's return to the FDA's Center for Drug Evaluation & Research as its permanent director surprised many Washington insiders, but she may have taken the job to steer the agency through a "time of transition," in implementing the FDA Amendments Act and fixing the prescription drug user fee program, this RPM Report analysis said. Regardless, her reputation as a "smart, honest and pragmatic leader" and her familiarity with the pharma and biotech industry means the move should be welcome by drug companies.
