Democrats are expected to propose amendments to a bipartisan, compromise bill on financial regulation drafted by Senate banking committee Chairman Christopher Dodd, D-Conn., and Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn. The proposals likely will include punitive measures for financial institutions. "We've got to get this right," said Sen. Jeff Merkley, D-Ore. "It will be 10 years from now or longer when we'll look back and say, 'Did we take the risk out of the system in the right places?' "
