British scientists tout breakthrough material from chalk and polystyrene

British scientists said they have developed a technique to create a composite material that is highly resistant to cracking. Using a combination of chalk and polystyrene, the scientists said, they can create a ceramic that is ideal as a building material and for bone replacements. "We have replicated nature's addition of proteins using polystyrene to create a strong shell-like structure with similar properties to those seen in nature," they said.
