China starts push for "triple-play" services

China's three largest telecoms will invest in converged broadband services in order to offer their customers the "triple-play" bundle of voice, video and data services as the government moves to eliminate the regulatory barriers between broadcasters and telecoms. China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom could begin regional trials of the new services this year under a three- to five-year plan, government officials said.
