Device firms want FDA to define "new science," validate emerging data

Representatives from device companies said the FDA must develop a definition of "new science" before integrating new scientific data with regulatory decisions such as product evaluations and post-market monitoring. They also advised the agency to examine the data before making policy changes. The recommendations are in response to the agency's request for comments on the issue.
