FAA bill set to advance, but NextGen funding remains vague

Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., agreed Wednesday to lift his hold on the FAA reauthorization bill, allowing the measure to move forward as early as today after it was stripped of language that would have encouraged unionization at FedEx. But even without the FedEx provision, the FAA bill faces plenty of controversy in the Senate -- especially when it comes to funding for NextGen air traffic control. The Senate bill mandates that owners update their aircraft with new avionics but provides little help with the cost, estimated at $2 billion to $4 billion.
