Is Twitter really a social network?

Twitter may be growing fast, but most of its 50 million registered accounts aren't engaging with other users, according to a study. Nearly three-quarters of the site's users had tweeted fewer than 10 times, the report found. That raises the question of how social the site really is, notes study author Paul Judge, adding that most users apparently "came online to follow their favorite celebrities, not to interact with their buddies the way they would on Facebook or MySpace."
