AdvocateCare data show ACO reduces hospital visits

Data from AdvocateCare, a joint venture of Advocate Health Care and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois, suggest that accountable care organizations can lead to reductions in high-cost services as well as fewer hospital and physician visits. In the first half of 2011, hospital admissions per member were down by 10.6%, and emergency department visits fell by 5.4% from the previous year.
