Mich. district encourages more students to eat breakfast

Students who eat breakfast are likely to earn better grades and have better behavior in class, says Amy Verhelle Smith, director of food and nutrition services in a Michigan district. The district participated in the recent National School Breakfast Week -- led by the School Nutrition Association. As part of the campaign, the district encouraged more students to eat breakfast, demonstrated the benefits of healthy eating and led students in other activities.
