Study: Duodenal switch has higher diabetes remission rate than gastric bypass

A study of more than 300 morbidly obese patients revealed 82% of those who underwent duodenal switch surgery had remission of type 2 diabetes, compared with 64% of patients who had Roux-en-Y gastric bypass. The findings, presented at the annual meeting of the Central Surgical Association, also showed resolution of hypertension and hyperlipidemia in 67% and 81% of duodenal switch patients, compared with 39% and 55% of the gastric bypass patients.
