Wis. adopts portfolio-based assessments for new teachers

New teachers in Wisconsin will be asked to take a portfolio-based assessment, which includes an exam and examples of lesson plans, before being issued a teaching license. The Web-based Teacher Performance Assessment also will include videos of teachers and their interactions with students. Officials say the program is intended to ensure schools enlist high-quality teachers able to improve student achievement.
