Quinn launches historic bid for NYC mayor

Christine Quinn, the openly lesbian speaker of the New York City Council, set off on a walking tour of the city’s five boroughs Sunday after releasing a video formally announcing her campaign for mayor. If she wins, Quinn will be New York City’s first woman and first openly LGBT mayor. "As mayor of New York City, she will be a worldwide symbol of what openly LGBT people can achieve when we work hard, earn the respect of our communities and fight to win," said Chuck Wolfe, president and CEO of the Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund, which is backing Quinn’s campaign.
