Study links GDM to higher type 2 diabetes risk

Gestational diabetes was associated with an increased future risk of type 2 diabetes, according to a Korean study in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism. Researchers said that up to 50% of Asian women who have gestational diabetes will develop type 2 diabetes within eight years of giving birth. Regular blood glucose monitoring after pregnancy is key for women who had gestational diabetes, the lead researcher said.
