Study links GDM to higher type 2 diabetes risk

Gestational diabetes was associated with an increased future risk of type 2 diabetes, according to a South Korean study in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism. Researchers said up to 50% of Asian women with gestational diabetes will develop type 2 diabetes within eight years of having a baby. Regular blood glucose monitoring after pregnancy is key for women who had gestational diabetes, the lead researcher said.
