Clinical skin exams catch more malignancies than self-exams plus teledermoscopy

Dermatologists detected more malignant and dysplastic lesions than patients conducting self-exams with mobile teledermoscopy, according to a study published in JAMA Dermatology. Most of the lesions the patients identified as suspicious were not malignant, but more than a third were dysplastic nevi. The lesions missed by study participants were in hard-to-see areas, the researchers said.
