Grocers work to meet consumer demand for sustainable flowers

Consumer demand for sustainable flowers is on the rise, and retailers such as Whole Foods Market are making an effort to offer organic, fair-trade flowers. Whole Foods has also launched a program that has generated $6 million for flower farmers locally and in developing countries to cover "everything from education and housing to general improvements in the quality of life for a lot of farm workers," said Carol Medeiros, Whole Foods' associate global produce coordinator.
