Hypoglycemia-related ED visits number almost 100,000 annually, CDC finds

CDC officials estimated there were 97,648 emergency department visits every year between 2007 and 2011 due to insulin-related hypoglycemia and errors. Researchers also found patients ages 80 and older were more than twice as likely as those ages 45 to 64 to visit the ED and were five times as likely to be admitted. The findings were published in JAMA Internal Medicine.
