Making the most of family hires in an O&P practice

Hiring family members can be tricky, say experts, and O&P family businesses take a number of approaches to minimize problems both within the family and among other employees. Having family members read and sign a document that spells out duties, policies and procedures makes expectations clear, and asking them to prove their abilities can minimize concerns of other workers that the boss is playing favorites. It is also important to spell out how much shop talk is appropriate at family gatherings.
