Toms launches coffee line, extends 1-to-1 business model

Toms founder Blake Mycoskie made a name for his company by giving a pair of shoes to the needy for each pair he sold -- and now he's hoping to repeat the model with coffee. Proceeds from Toms' new line of coffee will go toward providing clean drinking water and sanitation for people around the world. "Once people get over the initial shock when they hear we're going into the coffee business, I think they'll see that Toms and the one-to-one model is a platform for doing a variety of things, not just a shoe or eyeglasses company," Mycoskie said.
