Textbook Publishers Struggle To Define Sept. 11

Textbook publishers are debating whether to insert potentially inflammatory analyses of Sept. 11 into textbooks. Peter Jovanovich, CEO of Pearson Education, has urged editors to emphasize patriotism and unity while at the same time looking "beyond simply inserting text that deals with the events." McGraw-Hill has added a section on the consequences of American investment in oil. Historians say publishers should avoid promoting a one-sided perspective.
