Hospital safety standards get push in the U.K.

The Healthcare Commission in the U.K. is planning a campaign to reduce medical errors in hospitals. The strategy will include vigorous checks of hospitals' hygiene standards along with monitoring the use of radiation and controlled drugs. It also intends to pressure hospitals' boards of directors to "monitor, analyse, and learn lessons from safety episodes ... and then act on them."
