Nevada project shines new light on solar thermal technology

The new Nevada Solar One project, which will begin generating electricity for nearby Las Vegas in April, marks a resurgence in solar thermal technology, which first emerged in the 1980s but stopped in the early '90s. Solar One will be the third largest solar thermal plant in the world when it opens, with a 64-megawatt capacity and the potential for 2,000 megawatts, enough power for about 500,000 people.
