Early engineering lessons aim to inspire

Making clay from flour, water and salt is more than child's play for students at one Colorado Springs, Colo., elementary school -- which, like a number of other schools, is introducing engineering alongside reading, writing and arithmetic. Lessons that focus on real-world problem solving are meant to inspire young students in the hopes they'll one day fill out the thinning ranks of U.S. engineers.
