EPA to speed reassessment of dioxin health risks

The EPA announced plans to expedite its reassessment of dioxin amid pressure from environmental groups that have argued the chemical is far more toxic than previously believed. Under the Bush administration, the EPA rejected a proposal from the Government Accountability Office to streamline completion of the dioxin study, and in January, the GAO reported to Congress that the delays posed a high risk to public health.
