Expert: Portals fail to address data, administrative needs of hospitals

Portal sites require clinicians to look for information they want, and such time-consuming technologies no longer help hospitals manage their administrative tasks and data needs, writes Stephanie Massengill of Healthcare Innovation Partners. As the adoption of electronic medical records grows, physicians and other personnel are turning to automated delivery methods that can be easily incorporated into their work flow as well as allow them to customize data, she writes. Systems designed for efficient health information exchange have been shown to reduce costs and boost patient care, Massengill contends.
