How should teachers encourage active learning?

Some Mississippi educators say they are doing whatever it takes to engage students in lessons and encourage "active learning." Principal Karen Wilson suggests that teachers should allow children to discover on their own how to accomplish classroom goals, saying that students are more likely to benefit from projects in which they are interested.
